The Side Effects of Krill Oil and How To Avoid Them by Rich Hawkins
The main problem with knowing the side effects of krill oil is that very few studies have been carried on them but with one exception they are similar to those of an average fish oil.
For the most part, krill appears to be a safe oil with very little contaminants in, as most comes from the pristine Antarctic waters.
Some people have reported diarrhea and stomach cramps but the most important to do is to avoid them if you are allergic to shellfish, even if you only get a small reaction as these are concentrated oils.
My problem with these overrated oils is that the main side effects of krill oil for me are the lack of many benefits! You have no doubt seen the hard selling sites for this oil and the extravagant claims of being a great source of omega 3 and so on.
The problem is it simply is not true and you will be robbed of many health benefits by using this oil over a quality fish oil.
Facts are facts and quality omega 3 fish oil contains up to 11 times more of the beneficial DHA fats than any krill oil. Research further and you will discover that with a good oil from fish like hoki or tuna you can get 600mg of DHA a day whereas oils from krill will only give 60mg.
DHA is converted by the body into a powerful anti-inflammatory substance called Resolvin D2 that holds the key not only to treating conditions like arthritis effectively, but many others too.
It helps to prevent heart disease, improves brain and mental health and reduces the risk of many cancers too, by significantly lowering the inflammation levels in your body.
If you use krill oil you are getting much less protection which could lead to serious health conditions later on that you could have avoided with quality fish oil.
As you can see, while the general known side effects of krill oil are mild, the fact that you are getting very little of the essential omega 3 DHA fats makes them a very poor and expensive choice.
